Staying Sane During Quarantine

If you’re like me, you’ve been leavening your intake of COVID updates with as much humor and kindness as possible, in order to balance out the horror and uncertainty we’re experiencing every day.  For myself, I have always been inspired by the words of Fra Giovanni Giocondo, a Renaissance pioneer and Franciscan Friar, who penned a note of encouragement on Christmas Eve of 1513 that is still being celebrated today.

The gloom of the world is but a shadow.  Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy.  There is radiance and glory in darkness, could we but see.  And to see, we have only to look.  I beseech you to look!

Well I have looked, every single day since the pandemic was announced, and I’m delighted to say I’ve found a great deal of it, and every single uplifting moment I’ve experienced during this trying time has been a gift.  And in the hope that we might be able to share a little bit of that with you, I want to share an email I received from an author friend last week:

"I’ve been reading a lot lately about the two distinct types of reactions to the pandemic where some people are takers (exclusively looking out for their survival) and others are makers (doing something to alleviate other people’s troubles at this time).  With that in mind I would like to team up with you to offer your listeners free audiobook copies of [my book]. I realize that not everyone at this time can afford to pay for an audiobook but that ten hours of entertainment and escapism can be of benefit to someone.  Please present the offer to your listeners anonymously, without referencing my name or the title of my book."

Unfortunately, the free books from our generous author went faster than I had time to post this blog, and there are none left to give away.  BUT... if you didn't see my post about it on social media, I'm still offering all visitors to my online store a complimentary copy of either Frankenstein: The Original 1818 Text or Gothic Horror: Bloodcurdling Tales From The World’s Greatest Authors.  To receive your free audiobook, just use code BBBAFREE at checkout (make sure to complete the process for order confirmation) and use link to download your audiobook.  This offer is good for one title per customer through April 30.  Visit for more info.

And that’s all for now.  I hope all of you are taking care of yourselves and Being Kind to one another.  We’ll get through this together.  In the meantime, stay safe, stay sane, and stay healthy.
